Tindastoll Cemetery
Location: 2 miles east of Markerville on a knoll on Twp road #364, just off Hwy #781
Brief History: Established in the 1890's by the board of Trustees for the Alberta Lutheran Congregation at Markerville,Tindastoll,Solheima,Burnt Lake and Red Deer ,all in Alberta. The first caretaker was Kristjan Johannson followed by his son Albert Johannson. August and Lily Seifried were hired as caretakers for a number of years. For many years, Little Joe Johannson was the chariman of the Tindastoll Cemetery Board and Gisli Eirikson looked after the books . Following Albert's passing, his daughter Marie and husband Ken Sveinson took over the cemetery map and still do this job today. Joe's daughter, Bernice Andersen served as the last chairman of the Tindastoll Cemetery Board. The board would hire the grass cutting done and relied on volunteers to do extra cleaning as needed. In 2008 the Tindastoll Cemetery ownership was legally transfered to the Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society which carries on the tradition of a spring clean up day followed by coffee and fellowship.
