🌟 Museum Interpreter 🌟

Historic Markerville & the Markerville Creamery Museum are currently seeking five (5) high school and post secondary Museum Interpreters to join our summer team.
These are exciting and challenging positions vital to our summer season.

✨ ​DO YOU HAVE SOME OF THESE QUALIFICATIONS?
  • excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • ability to work with groups over a wide age range
  • positive attitude and the aptitude to work well within a team environment as well as independently
  • fluent in English (Bilingual in French &/or Icelandic would be a great asset)
  • good computer skills

🌟 ​​JOB DESCRIPTION:
  1. Offer knowledgeable guided tours to visitors of the Markerville Creamery Museum & hamlet
  2. During May & June, present educational programs to school aged children, following the Alberta School curriculum, focusing on butter making, the dairy industry set in the early 1900’s & the traditionally Icelandic culture of Markerville.
  3. Present museum guided tours for seniors, families & visitors.
  4. Assist with the preparation and service of our traditional Icelandic menu
  5. Assist with the planning and presenting of special fundraising events that engage the community & visitors
  6. Provide quality food and customer service in the Markerville Creamery Museum’s coffee shop
  7. Assist Museum Manager, visitors & community members with genealogy of the Markerville area
📍 ​SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN:
  • ​knowledge of Alberta history
  • ​retail or tourism experience, cash handling skills
  • food handling experience - Safe Food training
  • customer service experience
  • public speaking and leadership
DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT:  May 8 – August 31, 2026 (weekend and evening work required)
REMUNERATION:  Starting wage of $16.50 per hour for successful applicants.

Are you passionate about local history, heritage, and community?
​Historic Markerville is looking for enthusiastic, reliable individual to help manage our Icelandic Café and assist in cultural events for the summer of 2026.


​Seasonal Fulltime Kaffistofa Manager Intern for Post Secondary Student
$20.00/hour
May 1st-August 31st, 2026
✨ WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service
  • Assist with programs and special events
  • Help preserve and celebrate our local heritage
  • Prepare menu items and serve our guests from the museum’s Icelandic café
  • Supervise and lead café staff during menu food preparation and food safety
  • Supervise cash handling and train parttime staff with café operations
  • Order food and café supplies as required
