Honoured PoetStephán G. Stephansson left Iceland in 1873, settling first in the U.S. before moving to Markerville in 1889. While in Markerville his political and philosophical thinking evolved, and he wrote extensively in Icelandic.

Stephansson MonumentSeptember 4, 1950, the Historic Sites & Monuments Board unveiled a monument to Stephan west of the Markerville walking bridge. The unveiling was attended by many academic establishment of Canada & the U.S.

Christinnson & Stephansson CemeteryThe first person interred in this family cemetery was Stefan Christinnson in 1905, followed through the years by various members of the Stephansson & Christinnson's families.
